My heart broke today as I read the news of the nineteen first-responders who lost their lives in Yarnell, Arizona last night. Tragedy struck as this crazy wildfire took an unexpected turn, trapping an entire group of firefighters to burn to their deaths.
On reading of this I immediately broke down into uncontrollable tears. How could this happen? And why? Then my mind started frantically searching, thinking, plotting: how can we tragedy-proof our lives? But we can't. I've settled into sadness. And thanks, for my loved ones who are with me. And I've been taking some time today to reflect on the preciousness of our time here.
Tonight, Dan and I will be praying for the firefighters and their families by name. I hope you will join.
